What is a CDA?
CDA is a Certified Digital Artwork.
The CDA contains a unique artwork in digital format that belongs to the owner
who is credited on the certificate accompanying that work in the CDA.
A ZIP file contains the work of art in digital format and the accrediting certificate has these sections:
- Signature of the author certifying the authorship and authenticity of the work.
- Signature of the minter of the CDA, usually an art gallery or an art institution, which acts as a mediator,
guarantees the terms of the agreement and the quality of the artwork.
- Signature of the new owner of the CDA who acquires ownership according to the terms of the agreement.
- Terms of the agreement that imply the assignment of reproduction, distribution and commercialization rights
of the work in favor of the new owner regulated by the agreement.
CDA coding
The CDA is encoded as shown in this example:
CDA-15-3 .
- The first three characters indicate that it is a CDA.
- First dash: In this case the number "15" is an ordinal counter that indicates that this is the last CDA minted,
here it would be CDA number 15, therefore there would be a total of 15 CDAs minted up to that moment.
- Second dash: The number "3" indicates that the CDA has been given to a third (3rd) owner.
When the gallery first mints a new CDA (number 15, for example) and gives it to the first owner the
CDA code would appear as in this other example:
CDA-15-1
Example of certificate (agreement) included in the CDA
The terms of this certificate may be modified by agreement between the parties.
